Why it matters

What makes it the Greek way?

In Australia, souvlaki usually means a wrap. In Greece, it means something different. Here's what makes the original special.

🔥
Kalamaki, not kebab
Small pieces of marinated meat threaded on a skewer and grilled over charcoal. In Greece, this is what souvlaki means — the skewer is the whole point.
🫓
Pita stays whole
No wraps, no rolling. The pita comes uncut alongside the skewers. You tear it by hand, add your tzatziki, build your own bite. That's the tradition.
🤝
Made for sharing
Souvlaki in Greece is a communal experience. Platters go in the middle of the table. Everyone tears, dips and eats together. That's the energy we're bringing.

Got questions.

When is World Souvlaki Day?
World Souvlaki Day falls on Saturday 3 May 2026. We're celebrating across all venues from Friday 1 May to Sunday 3 May — three full days of souvlaki the Greek way.
What is souvlaki the Greek way?
In Greece, souvlaki means small pieces of meat grilled on a skewer over charcoal — called kalamaki. It's served with uncut pita bread, fresh salad, chips and tzatziki. The pita stays whole so you tear it by hand and build each bite yourself. It's meant to be shared.
Do I need to book?
Booking is recommended but not required. Walk-ins are welcome across all venues. For groups of 6 or more, we recommend booking ahead to secure your preferred time and table.
What souvlaki options are available?
Choose from chicken, lamb, prawn, halloumi or vegetarian kalamaki skewers. Order as a meze (3 skewers, mix and match) or as shared platters (4-piece or 6-piece) served with chips, salad, uncut pita and tzatziki.
Is this available for takeaway?
Yes. The World Souvlaki Day menu is available for both dine-in and takeaway across all venues. We recommend dining in for the full sharing experience, but takeaway is available if you prefer.
Is the meat Halal?
Yes. All meat at Yassas is sourced from Halal certified butchers. Vegetarian and halloumi options are also available.
