Our story

More than a meal.
It's the Greek way.

Yassas was born from a simple but powerful idea: food is better when shared, hospitality should feel like family, and every table deserves a little bit of Greece.

"Yassas." It means cheers. And hello. And welcome. And we're glad you're here.

Where it all began
Where it began

A love of Greek food
and real hospitality.

Yassas started with a deep love of the food, the culture, and the spirit of Greek hospitality. The idea was simple: bring the real flavours of Greece to Melbourne in a setting that felt warm, casual, and genuinely welcoming to everyone.

The Greeks have a word for it. Philoxenia. The tradition of welcoming strangers as friends. Not a policy. Not a training module. Something you either feel or you don't. From the first day we opened, we felt it.

Our first venue opened in 2018 at Southbank. People came for the gyros and stayed for the experience: the warmth of the team, generous portions, and every guest treated like a guest of honour.

That first venue set the tone for everything that followed. Not a template. A feeling.

The food

No shortcuts.
Ever.

Greek food is simple food done right. Fresh ingredients, bold flavours, time-honoured techniques. At Yassas, we don't cut corners. We marinate our meats, grill on charcoal, and make every dip from scratch.

All our meats are sourced from Halal certified butchers. A major portion of our menu is naturally gluten free. We have extensive vegan options. We take dietary needs seriously. Great food should be accessible to everyone.

When people ask what makes Yassas different, the answer is always the same: we care about what's on the plate.

Melbourne
Our city.
Southbank · Docklands · Eastland · Craigieburn
Melbourne is our home

The Greek way,
across Melbourne.

From the Yarra riverbanks of Southbank to the shopping centres of the suburbs. Yassas has grown into Melbourne's communities. Every venue has its own personality, but the same soul.

Docklands joined the family in 2019. Eastland in 2020. Craigieburn in 2023. Each opening brought the Greek way to a new neighbourhood, a new community, a new set of regulars who quickly became friends.

More venues are coming. The Greek way is spreading.

What we stand for

The values
behind the food.

Philoxenia.

The Greek tradition of welcoming strangers as friends. Not a policy. Not a training module. Something you either feel or you don't. At Yassas, we feel it. Every table, every shift, every time.

🫒
Philoxenia
Every guest walks in a stranger. They leave as a friend.
😄
Joy
We take the food seriously. We don't take ourselves seriously.
🎯
Authenticity
Same recipe. Same welcome. Same standards. Every single day.
🤝
Togetherness
Pull up a chair. Greek food was never meant to be eaten alone.
Pride
Every dish lands right. Every guest leaves happy. That's not the goal. That's the standard.
Our journey

From one venue to a

2020

Our largest venue opens at Craigieburn Central. 200 seats, all the warmth. A new chapter in Melbourne's north.
What's next

The Greek way is
still spreading.

We're not done. More venues are on the way. More Melbourne communities getting their own slice of Greece. The mission hasn't changed: fresh food, warm hospitality, every single day.

Whether you're a first-timer or a regular who feels like family, we can't wait to welcome you. Pull up a chair. Let's eat.
