You already know Yassas. Charcoal souvlaki, slow-cooked spit lamb, shared mezze, and a kitchen that treats dietary needs like they matter. In November 2026, we're bringing all of it to the heart of Mitcham.
Yassas The Greek Way opened in Melbourne's Southbank in 2018 with a simple idea: serve the Greek food Greek families actually eat at home — the kind cooked over an open charcoal fire, shared across the table, and finished with a sweet. Six years later, we're one of Melbourne's largest Greek restaurant groups, with venues at Southbank, Docklands, Eastland, Craigieburn and South Morang — and come November 2026, Mitcham.
Mitcham sits in Melbourne's leafy inner-east, between Blackburn and Ringwood, just off the Eastern Freeway and a short walk from Mitcham Railway Station. Whitehorse Road is one of the great eating streets in Melbourne's east, and 454 Whitehorse Road is our new home: a dedicated Greek restaurant with its own charcoal grill, multiple dining zones for every kind of occasion, dedicated function rooms built for private events, and a full bar pouring Greek wines, Greek beers and Greek-inspired cocktails.
Our food is authentic without being museum-piece. We cook with mainland Greek technique — charcoal grilling over open flame, slow-roasting lamb on the spit, hand-rolling souvlaki skewers daily, and making our mezze in-house every morning — but we plate for modern Melbourne. The result is Greek food that tastes like it should: smoky, honest, generous and designed to be shared.
At every Yassas, our lamb, chicken and beef is sourced from halal-certified butchers, which means every family in our community can share our table. Our vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menus are full menus — not an afterthought section at the back — because a Greek table is only a Greek table when everyone's eating.
Yassas Mitcham is purpose-built for private events: dedicated function rooms, multiple dining zones, and a full bar — all under one roof on Whitehorse Road.
Whether you're organising a corporate work dinner, a Christmas party for 60, a 21st birthday with 100 of your closest friends, an engagement, a school formal after-party, a wedding anniversary for both families, a wake or name day, Mitcham gives you proper function infrastructure — not just a corner of the dining room with a reserved sign. Our team is ready for groups from 10 to 150 guests, with dedicated event managers, custom set menus, drinks packages, AV, and seasonal cocktail options.
Our main dining zone — open plan, high ceilings, charcoal grill in full view. Perfect for everyday dining and semi-private group bookings.
A dedicated private function room with its own entrance, bar service, AV screen and controllable lighting. Ideal for corporate dinners and milestone birthdays.
A covered street-facing terrace with heaters and olive trees — perfect for intimate dinners, hens parties and sun-drenched Sunday lunches.
A relaxed cocktail lounge off the main room — ideal for pre-dinner drinks, business receptions and casual cocktail-and-canapes events.
Take over the entire restaurant for weddings, 40ths and corporate takeovers. Full bar, kitchen, all dining zones and dedicated event coordinator.
We cater for every kind of event in the Melbourne east diary: corporate Christmas parties, end-of-year team dinners, sales kick-offs, client lunches, 21st birthdays, 30th and 40th birthdays, 50th and 60th milestone celebrations, engagement parties, rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, baby showers, christening lunches, name days, wakes and memorial lunches, school reunions, sporting club presentations, and community group functions.
Function menus start from set lunches and progress to shared Feed Me banquets and full degustation experiences, with drinks packages built around Greek wine, Greek beer and signature cocktails. We offer private dining with dedicated service staff, custom AV, cake storage, cake-cutting, dedicated event coordinators and a cancellation policy designed for busy calendars — full refund 7+ days before the event, 50% from 7 days to 24 hours, non-refundable within 24 hours, and free date-change within 4 months.
Charcoal grill. Spit roast. House-made mezze. Shared Feed Me feasts. Every dish on our Mitcham menu has roots in mainland Greek cooking, built for how Melbourne eats.
Chicken thigh skewered and marinated for 24 hours in olive oil, lemon, oregano, garlic and sea salt. Grilled over Mallee charcoal. Served with pita, tzatziki, chips and horiatiki.
Lamb shoulder trimmed and skewered daily, marinated in olive oil, garlic and rigani. Charcoal-grilled, slightly pink. The lamb comes from halal-certified butchers.
Whole lamb marinated for 24 hours and slow-roasted on the vertical spit until the outside is caramelised and the inside pulls apart. Carved to order.
Lamb medallion over smoked eggplant skordalia, pistachio and herb crumb, finished with orange gremolata. Dinner-service signature.
Full tentacle, slow-braised then finished on the charcoal grill. Dressed with ladolemono (olive oil + lemon), capers and fresh oregano.
Gulf prawns in a Santorini-style tomato, ouzo and feta broth, served sizzling in the pan with warm pita for mopping.
Tomato, Lebanese cucumber, Spanish onion, kalamata olives, oregano, extra-virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, finished with a slab of imported feta.
Warm Greek doughnuts, deep-fried to order, drenched in Attica honey, cinnamon and crushed walnut. The sweetest finish to any Greek meal.
Our shared Feed Me banquets are the easiest way to eat the whole menu. We serve two Feed Me experiences at Mitcham — Apla Ellinika (Simply Greek) is a four-course curated banquet of our signature mezze, charcoal plates and sweets, and the YASSAS Experience is our ultimate feast: five courses plus Greek cocktails and dessert. Both are built for two or more guests and designed to recreate the Greek village table in modern Melbourne. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free Feed Me versions are available.
Our mezze menu is made from scratch every morning: taramasalata (whipped tarama with lemon and olive oil), tzatziki (yoghurt with cucumber, dill and garlic), melitzanosalata (smoky grilled eggplant), hummus (Greek-style, finished with paprika), htipiti (whipped feta with roasted peppers), dolmades (vine leaves stuffed with lemon rice), spanakopita (filo and spinach pie), tiropita (feta cheese pie), saganaki (pan-fried kefalograviera cheese with honey and black pepper), and fried calamari (dusted in semolina and flash-fried). For sweet, alongside the loukoumades, our Portokalopita — warm Greek orange filo cake — closes the meal with coffee and a Metaxa.
Yassas Mitcham is designed with multiple dining zones so every occasion finds its right room — from a quick solo souvlaki at the bar to a 100-guest wedding takeover of the whole venue.
Our main room — open plan, charcoal grill in full view, warm Mediterranean lighting. Family dinners, date nights and quick lunches all land here. Walk-ins welcome.
A dedicated private function room with its own entrance, bar, AV screen and controllable lighting. Ideal for corporate events, milestone birthdays and intimate wedding dinners of up to 40 guests.
Covered street-facing terrace with olive trees, heaters and all-year outdoor comfort. Perfect for Sunday lunches, hens parties and warm-weather dinners.
A relaxed bar off the main room pouring Greek wine, Greek beer and signature cocktails. Perfect for pre-dinner drinks, after-work knock-offs and cocktail receptions.
Take over the entire restaurant — up to 150 guests — for weddings, corporate takeovers and milestone celebrations. Full kitchen, full bar, dedicated event coordinator.
Family-run means family-ready. Dedicated kids menu, high chairs, baby-change facilities, generous portions, kids-eat-with-mum pricing on set menus.
