The Experience

A cooking class built for curious kids

Souvlaki School is a hands-on session where children discover Greek food from the inside out. Not watching — doing. They handle real ingredients, learn why we use halal-certified meats, and build their own souvlaki from scratch.

🫓

Roll & Wrap

Kids learn the technique of wrapping a proper souvlaki — warm the pita, layer the protein, add sauces, fold it tight. There's actually a skill to it.

🧑‍🍳

Guided by Our Team

The Yassas team runs every session. Small groups mean every child gets hands-on time, attention, and a chance to ask questions.

🥙

Eat What You Make

The session ends with everyone eating what they created. Kids who "don't like sauce" tend to change their tune when they made it themselves.

🫒

Learn About Food

We explain where the ingredients come from, why Greek food uses fresh herbs and olive oil, and what halal-certified meat means. Fun, not a lecture.

🎨

Activity Packs

Younger siblings are looked after too — activity sheets and colouring packs keep the whole family busy while the session runs.

👨‍👩‍👧

Stay for Lunch

Families are encouraged to stay and dine in after the session. The full menu is available — it's a great way to make a day of it.

Session Runsheet

What happens in a session

Sessions run with a maximum of 16 kids per group. We keep it intentionally small so every child gets proper attention and hands-on time.

1

Welcome & Setup

Kids are welcomed to the activity space at the back of the venue. Each child gets their own station with everything they need: pita, proteins, sauces, and toppings.

2

The Greek Food Story

The Yassas team introduces what makes Greek food special — the halal-certified meats, the fresh herbs, the olive oil, and the tradition behind souvlaki.

3

Roll & Build

Guided by the team, each child layers their souvlaki: warm pita, grilled protein, tzatziki, tabouleh, tomato, onion. Then comes the all-important wrap.

4

Taste & Enjoy

Everyone eats what they made. Parents can order drinks and snacks for the table. Families are welcome to stay for a full meal after the session ends.

Souvlaki School FAQ

What age is Souvlaki School for?

Children aged 12 and under. The session is designed to be accessible for a wide age range — younger children (with a bit of parental guidance nearby) enjoy it just as much as older kids.

How many kids are in each session?

A maximum of 16 kids per session. We keep it small deliberately so every child gets hands-on time with the Yassas team and no one gets lost in the crowd.

Do parents stay during the session?

Yes — parents are welcome to stay nearby. We set up the activity space at the back of the venue and parents can order drinks and snacks for the table while the session runs. We encourage families to stay for a meal after the session ends too.

Is the food allergen-friendly?

All meat used is halal-certified. We can accommodate common dietary requirements with advance notice. Please contact us before booking if your child has specific allergen needs so we can prepare accordingly.

When do Souvlaki School sessions run?

Sessions run during Victorian school holidays across our Melbourne venues. Check the upcoming dates section above for the next available sessions. Dates vary by venue — some venues may run additional sessions during high-demand periods.

Can I book for a school group or excursion?

Yes — we can accommodate school groups and private bookings outside of our public school holiday schedule. Use the school group enquiry form below or email us directly to discuss your requirements. We can scale sessions up for larger groups.
